Reishi Rave: Our Favorite Benefits and an Easy DIY Tonic Recipe

Happy Monday, Glowshroom family! As we navigate cold and flu season, we hope you’re all staying cozy and healthy. Today, we’re thrilled to share a quick and easy DIY tonic to help you feel fierce all through February—while also celebrating one of our absolute favorite mushrooms. Meet reishi, the little fungi with a huge reputation! Known as the “mushroom of immortality,” reishi has been a staple in traditional medicine for centuries, and modern science is finally catching up. Whether you're sipping on a soothing tonic or treating your skin to a reishi-infused serum, this powerhouse ingredient is here to boost your immune system, ease stress, and even give you a natural glow. Let’s dive in!
Why We Love Reishi (and You Will Too)
Ancient Wisdom Meets Modern Wellness: Reishi isn’t just a pretty face in the fungi world—it’s been a go-to for centuries. Here’s why:
  • Immune Supercharger: Reishi helps balance your immune system, giving your body a natural boost without going overboard.
  • Fights Inflammation & Oxidative Stress: Packed with antioxidants, it’s great for keeping inflammation and free radicals in check.
  • Stress-Busting Adaptogen: Feeling a little overwhelmed? Reishi works as an adaptogen, helping your body manage stress naturally.
  • Heart & Liver Helper: Some studies even suggest reishi can support liver detox and promote heart health.
Reishi: For Your Tummy and Your Skin
Inside the Body: When you enjoy reishi in a tonic, tea, or supplement, you’re tapping into its bioactive compounds—think triterpenes and polysaccharides—that boost your immune defenses and help your body handle stress. It’s like giving your insides a gentle, yet effective, hug. These properties are exactly why we have incorporated Reishi in our Caliming Defense Drops.
On the Outside (Topically): Reishi isn’t just for drinking up! Applied on your skin, its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits can:
  • Soothe irritated or sensitive skin.
  • Boost hydration and strengthen your skin barrier.
  • Help smooth out the signs of aging by fighting off free radicals.
Pure Reishi extracts are infused in our Myco A+Collagen, Sensi Glow Gentle Cleanser, our Myco Glow Serum, and our popular Myco-C Vitamin C Serum!
DIY Spotlight: Immune-Boosting Reishi & Ginger Tonic
Ready for a little kitchen experiment? Here’s a super simple tonic that blends reishi with the zesty warmth of ginger—a perfect pick-me-up for your immune system.
Ingredients:
  • 1–2 thin slices of dried reishi mushroom (or 1 teaspoon of reishi powder) Links are listed below for your convenience.
  • 1 small piece of fresh ginger (about 1 inch, thinly sliced)
  • 1 cup of water
  • Optional: A squeeze of lemon and a drizzle of honey
How to Make It:
  1. Simmer Time: If you’re using reishi slices, toss them and the ginger into a small saucepan with 1 cup of water. Let it simmer gently for 20–30 minutes to pull out all the good stuff. (If you’re using reishi powder, just mix it with the ginger in a cup of hot water and steep for about 10 minutes.)
  2. Strain & Serve: Strain the liquid into your favorite mug. Add a splash of lemon juice and a bit of honey if you like a touch of sweetness.
  3. Sip & Enjoy: Take your time with this tonic, letting it work its magic as you relax and recharge.

NOTES:
While reishi is generally considered safe for many people, there are a few groups who should exercise caution when taking it internally. Here are some points to consider:
  1. Pregnant or Breastfeeding Women: The research on reishi during pregnancy or while breastfeeding is limited. If you're pregnant or nursing, it’s best to consult your healthcare provider before adding reishi to your regimen.
  2. Individuals on Blood Thinners or with Bleeding Disorders: Reishi might have mild blood-thinning effects, which could potentially increase the risk of bleeding. If you’re on anticoagulant medications (like warfarin) or have a bleeding disorder, it’s important to get medical advice first.
  3. Those on Immunosuppressive Medications: Because reishi has immune-modulating properties, it might interact with medications that suppress the immune system. If you're taking immunosuppressants, check with your doctor to ensure that reishi is safe for you.
  4. People with Mushroom Allergies: If you have a known allergy to mushrooms, you might be more likely to react to reishi. In such cases, it’s best to avoid reishi or speak with an allergist before trying it.
  5. Individuals with Preexisting Health Conditions: While reishi is used to support various aspects of health, if you have chronic health conditions—especially related to the liver or kidneys—it’s a good idea to talk with your healthcare provider about whether reishi is appropriate for you.
Remember, everyone’s body reacts differently to supplements, so it’s always a smart move to start with a lower dose to see how your body responds and consult a healthcare professional if you have any concerns or are taking other medications. Stay informed and take care!
